"Mirades Terra". Earth Traces by Marc Torra

We cannot do anything about it, we exist. It's inevitable, we gravitate. Our lives depend on it, we stir the earth.

We occupy peaks and crevices, we sweeten harsh lands, and make the worm flirt with the delicate skin, between above and below the earth. This is the humanized landscape, tread upon by feet and wheels, and transformed by hardened hands and sophisticated machines. It is the earth conditioned by our mistakes and successes, marked forever from the first glance, surprised and innocent.

I travel seeking the marks on the skin. All of them. Without historical or social prejudice. I travel across the surface without avoiding gravity, forcing myself to move right on it. I travel, expecting a beauty that’s hard to anticipate. With years of training the gaze, the luck of the passerby, the method, who knows how, maybe I will see something. And if there is intimacy, we will connect, I will forget that I am here, because I came for this. There will only be hands with learned gestures and eyes feeding the head, the heart, and the photographic sensor.

And driving, I will pass from ecstasy to doubt. The turns of the wheel will take me to the screen, passing through all the bright and dark corners, still without perspective, with the work half-done. Only with some clues, some hints. Without knowing whether they are imaginary traces, spiritual, or indeed earthly.
