The exhibition focuses on existing housing and its private and collective spaces through two opposing neighborhoods that represent different moments in the residential and socio-urban history of Barcelona and that are connected through the concept of vulnerability.
Two of the most disadvantaged areas of the city, the Raval neighborhood and the southwest sector of Besòs, provide insights for discussing the role of space in the issues of housing, inequalities, and vulnerability.
The exhibit offers a spatial perspective on habitability, based on the proximity of everyday elements and small-scale residential spaces. Its contextualization at an intermediate scale, in small urban sectors, allows for the observation and identification of micro-inequalities that align with non-spatial vectors of vulnerability, such as ownership and tenancy, among others.
The approach and methods of housing analysis seek to bridge the gap between geographical and architectural studies, providing critical reflections on the limitations and opportunities of rehabilitation interventions promoted by public policies.
The exhibition collects the empirical journey, graphic material, and discussion of the doctoral research of the curator, Sara Vima, as part of a research project for local cooperation funded by the Center for Cooperation for Development at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
