Presentation of the book “Gaudí in Tangier” with the presence of the two authors of the book, Concepció Peig Ginabreda and Manuel Arenas Vidal.
This work arises from the research conducted by the authors on Gaudí’s project for the Franciscan Missions of Tangier, based on the reading and analysis of the preserved graphic documentation and the context of this commission in the international Tangier of the late 19th century. “Gaudí in Tangier” sheds light on a project that contains completely innovative solutions which, although Gaudí could not build, constitute a unique and revealing precedent for his future work and his creative approach. The works Gaudí carried out on this Tangier project were used or adapted in later works (the church and crypt of Colònia Güell designed between 1898-1908; the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Família 1884-1926, …). He worked on it for more than two years (1892-1893), during which he made numerous floor plans, elevations, sections, and details. This book is a study on an early and little-known Gaudí project that was never built, despite Gaudí considering it “the project of his life.”
