On November 7 at 19:30, the second exhibition of the MIRADES cycle, focused on the element EARTH, will be inaugurated at the headquarters of the Demarcació de Lleida (Lleida Department) of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC). The exhibition, featuring photographs by Llorenç Melgosa, is titled “Earth is not a whole” and will be on display until December 31.
On behalf of the COAC, I was asked to create an exhibition inspired by the word EARTH and its meaning. Once the commission was accepted, I began the process of constructing the exhibition narrative, attempting to theorize the idea of EARTH in its entirety from my imagination. With some speed, I arrived at a kind of synthesis in the form of a list of possibilities for how to symbolize and represent my idea through images. A total of twelve themes came to mind, in which I placed the exhibited images according to the interpreted context, some from my archive and others created after receiving the commission.
On the other hand, there are many ways we use the word origin and a multitude of derivatives we can use. Here are a few examples:
The Earth can be owned, Land; it can be under our feet or fall on us, Earth; we can make everyday objects or construction elements from it, Pottery; it can shake violently, Earthquake; the same Earth can be filled with more Earth, Embankment; it can be removed to uncover something, Unearth; or even do the opposite, Buried, a verb that often saddens us when it becomes a reality. I wouldn’t want to end this list without mentioning the word Exile, which was used by kings or high officials when punishing those who were disloyal or simply opposed their decisions.
These are just a few examples of the semantic richness that the word giving the name to this year’s MIRADES project, Earth, and its derivatives bring to our communication. They underscore the importance that EARTH, with a capital letter, holds in our lives — the place that shelters us and, unfortunately, is not treated as it deserves, and which presides over and motivates this exhibition.

Mirades cycle
The "MIRADES" exhibition cycle is a cultural initiative that weaves across the entire territory in a collaborative manner, highlighting the local heritage through the observation of the four elements of nature: water, earth, fire, and air. Each of these elements is the focus of an annual exhibition, completing the series over four years and enriching the historical archive of the *Col·legi d'Arquitectes* with the donation of photographic records that will form the exhibitions. In this way, from a local perspective, we will collectively share and debate commitments of a global nature.
