On the occasion of the 150 th anniversary of the birth of Antoni Gaudí, the Independente Foundation organised a very important cycle of talks from April 3 to May 8, 2002, in six prestigious Madrid institutions, so that the life and work of Gaudí was studied, analysed and debated. The cycle began at the Cultural Centre of Villa de Madrid and was closed at the Real Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Between both events, discussions were held at
the Atheneum, the Cultural Foundation of the Architects’ Association, the Blanquerna Cultural Centre and Circle of Fine Arts.

Three prominent historians spoke about ‘Gaudí in his time’. Three well-known biographers of Gaudí took part in the panel dedicated to ‘Gaudí and his biography’. The session in which ‘Gaudí architect’, was addressed had four speakers of singular importance. The panel ‘Gaudí and the Sagrada Familia’ was dedicated to his major work. It was mandatory that a session was dedicated to "Gaudí and Modernism". The cycle was closed with the conference ‘Gaudí and his projection’. Prominent personalities took part in all of them.

The book ‘Gaudí in Madrid’, promoted by the Independente Foundation and published in 2002, comprehensively covers the events held. This re-edition, improved and updated, is published on its 20 th anniversary by the ADIPROPE Foundation and the Gaudí Madrid Centre.

This presentation will feature the participation of Ignacio Buqueras, promoter of the book; Jordi Romera, president of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia’s Tarragona headquarters; Jaume Costa Pallejà, architect, and Mn. Antonio Martínez Subías, historian.
