Presentation of the book Carlos Martí Arís: Thought and Architecture by its authors and editors.
The main goal of the book is to foster an intellectual debate about the ideas and teachings inspired by the figure of Carlos Martí Arís, highlighting his multiple roles as a critic, educator, professor, editor, and designer. This book does not merely aim to evoke his legacy but seeks to continue nurturing his critical and practical explorations, keeping the questions he raised open for debate rather than closing them.
The work showcases an intellectual activity that invites us to engage in dialogue from the present, using it as a tool to better understand the future. It reflects on the influence of theoretical and practical —or “operative,” as Carlos himself put it— topics with the intention of clarifying or questioning them honestly, avoiding dogmatism. The true impact this editorial proposal seeks to achieve is that, after reading it, attendees of the presentation feel the curiosity and desire to delve into Carlos Martí Arís’s writings, discovering or revisiting them.
The book comprises around thirty texts that explore complementary concepts and terms that have been part of the forty years of intellectual debate in which Carlos participated. These texts are authored by a group of writers who, alongside him, have contributed to shaping a distinctive way of understanding architectural criticism.
