Screening of the documentary about the figures of Félix Julbe, Raimon Torres, and Isabel Martínez, three architects connected to Ibiza in the 1970s and 1980s. With the participation of family and friends of Félix Julbe and Raimon Torres, as well as the testimony of Isabel Martínez herself, the documentary explores the role that architecture had to play in a constant dialogue with tradition, modernity, ecology, and mass tourism during intense, turbulent, passionate, and undoubtedly utopian years. The documentary is also a tribute to the character of Félix Julbe, a unique and humanist architect, and a remembrance of an era and an island where many, like him, sought to transform private and public spaces in permanent harmony with ethics and aesthetics.

The session will feature the presence of Isabel Martínez, architect; Francesc Parcerisas, writer; Néstor Pellicer, graphic artist; David Trías, editor; and Luis Ortas, the documentary’s director.

Félix Julbe (Madrid, 1940-2013)

He was an architect and urban planner by profession and vocation. Between 1971 and 1986, he lived, enjoyed, and endured passionate years in Ibiza. Over the years, he designed family units and tourist accommodations in Ibiza, Formentera, and Mallorca. He served as the Visa Architect for the Ibiza and Formentera Delegation of the Balearic Islands' College of Architects and was a member of the drafting team, as coordinating architect, for the "Plan for the Interior Reform of the City of Ibiza" (1974-75), under the direction of Raimon Torres. Alongside Torres, as Municipal Architect of Formentera, he led the island’s "Planning Scheme" (1975-77).

He prepared, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, the dossier for the inclusion of Ibiza’s Dalt Vila ensemble on the UNESCO World Heritage list and co-edited, with Rafael Pascuet, the book "Teoria(s) de Ibiza", featuring texts by Walter Benjamin, Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, Antonio Escohotado, Salvador Paniker, and Francesc Parcerisas. In 2016, the Ibiza and Formentera Delegation of the Official College of Architects of the Balearic Islands published "Real Journey to a Utopian Space and Other Island Texts", a posthumous book with his writings on architecture, Ibiza, and (utopian and non-utopian) travels.

"To try to recover a space and a time. To travel to the island. The utopia of travel and islands. To live on the island as if always traveling." ("Félix Julbe")
