The Architects’ Association of Catalonia’s Sènior/a Group is starting a Book Club. The first session will be about the book ‘The Death and Life of Great American Cities’ by Jane Jacobs. It is written by a woman who was not an architect but through her activism she
confronted established power. Her opposition to Municipal Engineer Robert Moses project to build a freeway above Washington Square in New York is well known. Fifty years after its publication, it is, according to the New York Times, “probably the most influential book in
the history of urban planning”.
The event will be conducted by the lawyer Maria Cacharro and the retired architect and urban planner, Jaume Carné, member of the Senior Group.
The book is published by Capitán Swing and can be found both at La Capell bookstore and the COAC Library.
Organising entities: Group of Senior Architects of the Architects’ Association, COAC, Open Architecture Centre and La Capell bookstore.
The books that will be chosen for debate at the Book Club will be influential titles in our cultural environment but that for various reasons have been forgotten or even banned.
Els llibres que des de Sènior/a es portaran al Club de Lectura procuraran treure a debat aquells títols que han estat influents en el nostre entorn cultural però que per raons diverses han estat oblidats o fins i tot proscrits.
