Interaction artist and media design Luna Maurer is the second guest of the new edition of the Elisava Masters’ Talks series of conferences with the talk ‘Rewind and fastforward’.
Luna Maurer is originally from Stuttgart (Germany) and completed her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. She directs the Moniker studio , which is based in Amsterdam, together with Roel Wouters. Moniker is known for authoring the Conditional Design Manifesto, along with Edo Paulus and Jonathan Puckey. Luna Maurer has taught media courses at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the Sandberg Institute, the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, HfG Karlsruhe and the Yale University School of Art.
Moniker explores the characteristics of technology and its influence on our daily lives. They have designed many participatory projects (both online and offline), as well as other web projects, films and performances. Their clients range from cultural institutions such as the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and Fondation Beyeler (Basel) to more technology-oriented clients such as the Mozilla Foundation, Unity 3D and Google. Moniker has won many awards including a British Music Video Award, a Webby, several Dutch Design Awards and the Amsterdam Prijs voor de Kunst.
Rewind and fast forward
Luna Maurer will delve into Moniker’s relationship with technology over the past 20 years and its impact on her practice. Moniker is currently developing a new perspective on technology, prompted by recent rapid developments in the field. The web went from an emancipating democratising network to an infrastructure for big capital, the screen of a self- publishing interface to a fundamental extension of our identity. In this way, Maurer will share her latest experiments.
Elisava Masters’ Talks
The second edition of this cycle of conferences takes place between November 2022 and May 2023 with presentations carried out by top international creatives. The proposal aims
to address the current state of design with a program of six talks in which professional experiences on design, communication, architecture, art and innovation will be shared.
The guests of this second edition head the lists and trends in contemporary design, engineering and creativity worldwide, disciplines in which Elisava has been a reference in its
educational offer for more than 60 years.
