The ‘Material Culture’ cycle begins. It aims to reflect on how the technique of manufacturing different materials present in architecture adapts to new technologies while preserving tradition. It also wants to think about how the manufacture of tiles, glass, wood and ceramics is maintained and evolved at the same time. The first session will be given by the architect Biel Huguet and it will consist of a review of the history and evolution of the hydraulic mosaic and the terrazzo: where it all started, how it has been updated thanks to contemporary architecture and how the material continues to evolve today thanks to constant evolution.
Biel Huguet (1972, Campos, Mallorca)
He studied technical architecture at the Politechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and completed his final project at the University of Westminster, London, where he studied Project Management. When he returned, he began studying engineering in industrial organisation (UPC) while taking over the family business, together with two partners. In 2008 he became the sole administrator and in 2022, 25 years later, Huguet has managed to position his firm and profession among the most important architectural firms and design studios in the world.
